Best Day Trips from Zurich

Zurich's central Swiss location and exceptionally efficient rail network make it one of the world's best bases for day trips. The Jungfrau region — with the famous Jungfraujoch "Top of Europe" railway station at 3,454 metres — is accessible in under three hours, offering one of the world's great mountain experiences. Lucerne, arguably Switzerland's most beautiful lakeside city, is just 45 minutes by fast train. The Swiss Rhine Falls at Schaffhausen are 30 minutes away, while the medieval old town of Bern (the Swiss capital) is under an hour by train.
