Zurich has developed one of Europe's most sophisticated specialty coffee scenes in the past decade, transforming from a city where coffee meant a competent but unremarkable cafe espresso into a destination where serious roasters and baristas have attracted international attention for the quality and care they bring to every cup. The city's wealth and culture of perfectionism have proven excellent foundations for a specialty coffee culture.

The third-wave coffee movement is concentrated in the neighbourhoods of Langstrasse, Zurich-West, and the areas around Helvetiaplatz — historically working-class districts that have become the city's most creative and cafe-dense neighbourhoods.
